Prof. Ahmet O. IKIZ is a Professor of Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery (ORL&HNS) at DokuzEylul University School of Medicine, İzmir-Turkey. With 30 years of experience in otorhinolaryngology, his surgical practice includes a wide variety of head & neck patients with primary interest in thyroid & parathyroid and salivary gland surgery focusing on improving outcome of patients undergoing head and neck surgery.


Dr. Andrei Karpenko, MD, PhD


Got his MD degree in I.P. Pavlov St.-Petersburg State Medical University, Saint-Petersburg, Russian Federation in 1997 and was trained as a ENT specialist in that University. In 2004 he joined the Leningrad regional oncologic hospital as a head and neck surgeon. Since 2010 he is the head of the head and neck surgery unit of this hospital. The main field of the interest is reconstructive surgery.

Gianlorenzo Dionigi is full Professor of Surgery since 2013 at the Department of Surgical Sciences, University of Messina (Italy), Director and Chairman of the Division for Minimally Invasive and Endocrine Surgery, Center for Endocrine Surgery Research.

He studied medicine at the University of Insubria (Varese – Como, Italy), before obtaining his medical licence in 1990. From 1990 - 2004 he undertook his surgical training including general, trauma and endocrine surgery, visceral surgery at Ospedale di Circolo Fondazione Macchi, Varese, Italy.

Gianlorenzo Dionigi is teaching professor in abdominal, onocologic, endocrine and digestive surgery at the University of Messina.

His visiting and postdoctorial training for surgery were at Department of Surgery, University of Pisa director Prof. Paolo Miccoli, for mini-invasive thyroid surgery; clinical observer at Thyroid and Parathyroid Clinic, Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, USA, Director Gregory W. Alongside these prestigious achievements, Gianlorenzo Dionigi is an active member of the European Society Endocrine Surgery (ESES), the European Thyroid Association (ETA), the American College of Surgeons (FACS), American Thyroid Association (ATA), the Intenational Neural Monitoring Study Group and the Korean Intraoperative Neural Monitoring Society (KINMoS).

Prof. Dionigi has experience with neural monitoring starting in 2004 of approximately 6,000 cases of intermitted and 1000 of continuous IONM and endoscopic endocrine surgery with emphasis on MIVAT and TOETVA.

He has lead endocrine surgical presentations and live “hands-on” surgeries to thyroid surgical units in China, Korea, Taiwan, USA, Brazil, Middle East and all Europe.

Gianlorenzo Dionigi published more than 400 indexed papers, 30 Chapters on Texbook, 16 Guest Editor in in Scientific Journals. Gianlorenzo Dionigi is Editor of 5 texbook of general surgery. Along with his activities in national and international societies Professor Dionigi has been in charge of several national and international endocrine surgery and interdisciplinary guidelines.

Professor Dionigi´s special interest is clinical and translational research of endocrine surgery of the thyroid, parathyroids, adrenals, and gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors.

Dr. Jose Granell


Jose Granell is Associate Director of the Dept. of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Rey Juan Carlos University Hospital and Associate Professor at the European University, Madrid, Spain.

His main clinical interests are thyroid and head and neck oncologic surgery, with special focus on minimally invasive functional procedures. Currently he champions the development of robotics applied to head and neck surgery in Spain and other Spanish speaking countries, acting as proctor.

Julie Miller

A/Professor Miller is a specialist surgeon with specific expertise in endocrine surgery. Originally from Houston, she became a fully qualified surgeon in New York City before moving to Australia in 2001. She is a consultant surgeon at The Royal Melbourne Hospital and Epworth Freemason's Hospital, and former Clinical Dean for Surgical Education at the University of Melbourne.

Professor Miller serves as the President of Australia/New Zealand Endocrine Surgeons, and Head of the Endocrine Section of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. She serves on Council of the Asian Association of Endocrine Surgeons, and is Head of Endocrine Surgery at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, where she directs the Thyroid Cancer Multidisciplinary Care Conference.

She maintains a busy endocrine surgical practice and enjoys time with her husband and three children.

He is Section Chief of Head and Neck Endocrine Surgery and Associate Medical Director of the Endocrine Center at MD Anderson Cancer. Dr. Zafereo holds national committee appointments for the American Head and Neck Society, American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, and American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, and he is a Past President of the Houston Society of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. He lectures on a regular basis on national and international courses. His research work on various topics in endocrine surgery led to the publication of over 70 peer-reviewed papers, 10 chapters in books, over 50 presentations to national and international meetings. Nearly 20 of his researches received an award. At the present time he is an executive committee member of the Turkish Association of Endocrine Surgery, an examiner for the European Board in Endocrine Surgery, a member of the Research and Education Committee of the European Association of Endocrine Surgeons (ESES),member of International Advisory Board of Asian Association of Endocrine Surgeons (AsAES) and national collaborator of the ‘Eurocrine’ project. He launched the robotic adrenalectomy program in 2012 at his university, the transoral endoscopic thyroidectomy & parathyroidectomy program of Turkey in 2017 and the transoral robotic thyroidectomy program of Turkey in 2018. In June 2019, he carried out Europe’s first transoral robotic thyroidectomy course in Belgium.

Dr. Wojciech Golusinski


Wojciech Golusiński is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Head and Neck Surgery of the Poznan University of Medical Sciences at the Greater Poland Cancer Centre. He currently holds the position of President of the European Head and Neck Society (EHNS) where he previously and successfully acted as General Secretary. For many years now, he has been one of the most internationally recognized Polish head and neck surgeons. He authored more than 200 articles, case studies, book chapters and lectures. His field of expertise includes head and neck surgery, with special focus on reconstructive microsurgery, and transoral endoscopic surgery. His research interests are nowadays chiefly focused on prevention of head and neck cancer and the role of HPV infection in cancerogenesis as well as the subject of cancer markers. Wojciech Golusiński is also the initiator and founder of the Polish Programme of Head and Neck Cancer Prevention. In 2016 he has been appointed to the position of head and neck cancer expert by the Polish Ministry of Health. Professor Golusiński is also the founding member of the Polish Society of Head and Neck Cancer.

He has pioneered a new robotic technique to remove radiorecurrent and radioresidualcancers and is the first surgeon in the UK to perform robotic free flap reconstructions. He has received over £3 million in grant funding, published over 170 papers, and co-edited the fourth and fifth editions of the UK National Head and Neck Cancer Multidisciplinary Management Guidelines, andthe volume on "Head and Neck Disease" for the 8th edition of Scott-Brown's Otolaryngology, the leading multi-volume multi-author textbook in the specialty in the world.He is also chief editor for the forthcoming 6th edition of Stell & Maran's Textbook of Head and Neck Surgery and Oncology.

Prof. Claudio R. Cernea is Professor of Surgery of the Department of Head and Neck Surgery of the University of São Paulo Medical School, in São Paulo, Brazil. Prof. Cernea has served as President of the Brazilian Society of Head and Neck Surgery, as well as a member of its Executive Council. In addition, he also served as a member of the Executive Council of the American Head and Neck Society, and he served as a member of the Executive Council of IFHNOS, where he is presently Treasurer. Prof. Cernea has published more than 160 peer-reviewed papers, 42 book chapters, and 4 books. He was the Chief Editor of the book “Pearls and Pitfalls in Head and Neck Surgery”, which offers several practical surgical tips in Head and Neck Surgery and was published in English, Portuguese and Mandarin.

He also acted as Visiting Professor in some of the most prestigious Institutions of the world; for example: Harvard Medical School, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Johns Hopkins Medical School, University of Hong Kong, University of Göttingen, Free University at Amsterdam, Universitá Católica di Roma and University of Pittsburgh, among many others. Alfredo Q.Y. Pontejos Jr, MD


Alfredo Q.Y. Pontejos Jr, MD is a graduate of the University of the Philippines, College of Medicine (UPCM) in 1976. He had his residency training in University of the Philippines- Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH) from 1978 to 1981; and had his post-graduate training in Head and Neck Surgery in 1982 at the Institute of Laryngology and Otology, University of London, and at the Royal National Throat Nose and Ear under the tutelage of Professor Sir Donald Harrison. He returned to the Philippines to become an Assistant Professor and Attending Otolaryngologist at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, UP-PGH. He also developed private practice in various hospitals in Manila namely United Doctors Medical Center, and Manila Doctors Hospital.

He has held various key positions in the past namely: president of Asian Society of Head and Neck Oncology (ASHNO), president of the Philippine Society of Oncology (PSO), president of Asia-Oceania ORL societies, president of Philippine Society of Head and Neck Surgery, Vice President of Philippine Society of Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery, and Chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology in Manila Doctors Hospital, Chairman of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital,among others.

At present, he is President of the Philippine Board of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery , a council member of the Asia Pacific Thyroid Society, executive council member of Asian Society of Head & Neck Oncology and adviser to Asia Oceania Association of Otolaryngologic Societies. Dr Lim Chwee Ming


Dr Lim Chwee Ming is a Senior Consultant with the Department of Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, Singapore General Hospital. He also holds the appointment of Assistant Professor at the Duke - NUS Graduate Medical School; and heads the translational immunology head and neck cancer laboratory at Academia (SGH). His clinical interests are in thyroid cancer, nasopharyngeal and other virally driven cancer.

Dr. Quan - Yang Duh, MD


Dr. Quan - Yang Duh is Professor of Surgery, Chief of Section of Endocrine Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Dr. Duh graduated from Yale University in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry. He trained in General Surgery and Endocrine Surgery at the University of California, in San Francisco.

Dr. Duh is an expert endocrine surgeon with research interest in endocrine tumors of the thyroid, parathyroid, pancreas and adrenal glands and minimally invasive surgery. Dr. Duh is a past President of the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons (AAES) and received the AAES Oliver Cope Meritorious Achievement Award. He was the Paul Starr Lecturer for the American Thyroid Association (ATA) in 2017. He has published more than 400 papers and co-edited three textbooks on endocrine surgery. He is on the editorial board of Thyroid and JAMA-Surgery.


Prof. Dr. Rumen Pandev Md, Phd


Rumen Pandev is currently working as professor of surgery at University Hospital “Queen Johanna” - Medical University Sofia, Bulgaria as the chairman of One-Day & Endocrine Surgery Unit.
His main interests are management of benign & malignant endocrine diseases, and famillial endocrine diseases.
Prof. Pandev is currently a member of Bulgarian Surgical Society, International Association of Endocrine Surgeons (IAES), European Society of Endocrine Surgeons (ESES), Division of Endocrine Surgery, European Board of Surgery, European Association of Medical Specialties (UEMS ), German Association of Endocrine Surgeons (CAEK).
He is a secretary of Bulgarian Workgroup of Endocrine Surgery and Coordinator of SOUTHEASTERN EUROPEAN CLUB OF ENDOCRINE TUMORS.


Dr. Sean Loughran


Mr Loughran is the lead thyroid surgeon for Manchester Royal Infirmary, UK, as well as lead for paediatric thyroid and parathyroid disease and regional lead for medullary thyroid cancer. His background is in Otolaryngology Head and Neck surgery.
