Akira Miyauchi, MD, PhD

CURRICULUM VITAE

Dr. Miyauchi is President of Kuma Hospital, Center for Excellence in Thyroid Care, Kobe, Japan. He is an endocrine surgeon, especially interested in thyroid and parathyroid diseases. About 1,300 thyroid canceroperations are done every year at Kuma Hospital. He is Chairman of the Asian Association of Endocrine Surgeons.He is also President of the International Association of Endocrine Surgeons.

Professor Dan M. Fliss M.D is the Chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neckand Maxillofacial Surgery and the Interdisciplinary Center for Head and Neck Surgical Oncology at Tel-Aviv Soursky Medical Center, affiliated to the Sackler Faculty of Medicine Tel-Aviv University. He is also Scientific Staff at the Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, Mount Sinai Hospital,Toronto, and the University of Toronto, Canada.He is currently the Scientific Secretary of the Asian Society of Head and Neck Oncology,Councilor of the International Academy of Oral Oncology (IAOO), a member of the Executive Committee of the International Federation of Head and Neck Oncology Societies (IFHNOS),on the International Advisory Service (IAS)Task Force of the AHNS, Co-Chair of the International Committee of the Skull Base Committee of the American Society for Head and Neck Surgery (AHNS)and an Honorary Member of many International Head and Neck Societies.He is a frequent invited guest speaker at many international academic events among whichthe prestigious Eugene N. Myers International Lecture on Head and Neck Cancer. The P.A Shah Oration at the Foundation for Head and Neck Oncology in India,The Grimm Lecture and The Percy Ireland Oration at the University of Toronto. He was also awarded the Sendulskogo commemorative medal of Russia.Prof. Fliss serves on the editorial boards of The Head and Neck Journal and is the Editor of the Head and Neck Section of the Skull Base Journal, The Otolaryngology – Head and NeckSurgery Journal, Oral Oncology , The Journal of Operative Techniques in OtolaryngologyHead and Neck Surgery, the European Journal of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery , andothers.Prof. Fliss is the author of 350 articles and book chapters and the author of five books onHead and Neck and Skull Base Surgery: Atlas of Head and Neck Surgery (J.P. Feng-Yu Chiang, MDis a Professor of the Department of Otolaryngology, Head &. Neck Surgery, Kaohsiung Medical University, Taiwan.Now, he is the Director of Asia-Pacific Society of Thyroid Surgery (APTS) and Board member of International NeuroMonitoringStudy Group (INMSG). Dr. Chiang’s clinical expertise and research focus on thyroid and parathyroid surgery with a special emphasis on intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM) of recurrent laryngeal nerve.

Hang Seok Chang, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.C.S

Dr. Hang-Seok Chang is Professor, and General Director of Cancer Hospital of Gangnam Severance Hospital,Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea.

He is the Chairman of Korean Association of Thyroid-Endocrine Surgeons (KATES), the Chairman Elect of the Korean Thyroid Association (KTA), and the Vice President of the Korean Society of Head and Neck Oncology (KSHNO).

He is author of more than 200 articles, including over 100 SCI articles. He wrote 2 Textbook on Endocrine Surgery.(in Korean)

John C Watkinson

CURRICULUM VITAE

Semon Lecture Title: “From Felix to the Helix, and from the Cradle to the Grave – Semon’s contribution to Thyroid Surgery.”

Biography: John Watkinson qualified from the Royal Free Hospital, London in 1979, and trained in ENT, Head and Neck and Plastic Surgery at Guys Hospital and The Royal Marsden. He has Fellowships in General Surgery and Otolaryngology, an MSc in Nuclear Medicine and MS in Surgery. He is an elected member (by thesis) of both the American Triological Society and the American Head & Neck Society. He held visiting professorships at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore,and then Duke in Carolina, USA before completing his training with a further Plastics Fellowship at Canniesburn Hospital, Glasgow.

He was a Consultant Head and Neck and Thyroid surgeon at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, University of Birmingham NHS Trust (1992 – 2017), and Consultant Thyroid Surgeon at The Royal Marsden Hospital, London (2016 – 2017). He is currently Honorary Paediatric Head and Neck and Thyroid Surgeon at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), and lectures in Anatomyat UCL, London.

He hada large thyroid clinical and research practice,supervised over 30 Higher Degrees and in 1998 was Hospital Surgical Doctor of the Year. He has published on all aspects of Head & Neck and Thyroid surgery; organised the Birmingham Head and Neck course (1997-2006) and is Chief Editor of several major textbooks including Scott Brown, Stell and Maran, Tips & Tricks in Endocrine Surgery,and has edited the latest Neck Section in Gray’s Anatomy. He was President of the British Association of Head and Neck Oncologists (2009-2011), President of British Association of Endocrine and Thyroid Surgeons (2011-2013) andis the first ENT surgeon to hold that honour.

He was President of the Royal Society of Medicine Laryngology Section (2014-2015). He has been involved in a number of National guidelines including NICE, BTA, BAHNO, DAHNO and ENT-UK, and was awarded a Hunterian Professorship in 2009 from The Royal College of Surgeons of England. He was appointed by [Dame] Tessa Jowell to serve on ARSAC (Administration of Radioactive Substances Advisory Committee) for the Government (1994 – 2002). From 2003 – 2010 he was an examiner for the Part III FRCS-ORL Exam. In 2015, hewas awarded the Jobson Horne Prize by the BMA for his lifetime contribution to medicine in ENT, and in 2019 was awarded a lifetime achievement award by the President and Counsel of BAHNO. John was also a member of the NCIN and NICR national committees.

Johnhas given a number of eponymous lectures including the Stell memorial lecture (2005), John Palmer (Toronto2007), the Leegard lecture (2009), Hunterian (2009), the Wilde Discourse (2011), RSM Presidential Address (2014) and the Thomas Tatum Lecture (2016). Recently, he co-wrote the ‘History of the Semon Lecture’ (www.semonlectures.org).In 1994, together withAdrian Drake-Lee, the Warwickshire Cricketers, Dr Hilary Jones, the late Roy Castle and Peter Scudamore he co-founded The Get A-Head Charitable Trust (www.getahead.org.uk).

John is married with two children, enjoys travelling, watching all sports, fishing and fine wine!

Gregory W. Randolph

CURRICULUM VITAE

Gregory W. Randolph MD, FACS, FACE is Professor of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery and the Claire and John Bertucci endowed Chair in Thyroid Surgical Oncology at Harvard Medical. He serves as Director of the Comprehensive Otolaryngology Division and founded and directs the Division of Thyroid and Parathyroid Endocrine Surgery.

Dr. Randolph has over 200 peer reviewed publications. He has lead thyroid surgical missions in St. Petersburg, Russia, Guangzhou, China, Kenya, rural India and in the Chernobyl region of the Ukraine. He directs the Harvard Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery Course and has directed international surgical courses in Italy, India, Germany, Switzerland and Russia. He has published “Surgery of the Thyroid and Parathyroid Glands” now in its third edition and “The Recurrent and Superior Laryngeal Nerves”. He served as the Academy of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery President 2016-17 and he currently serves Chair of the Endocrine Surgical Section of the American Head and Neck Society.

Jatin P. Shah

Jatin P. Shah, M.D, is Professor of surgery and holds The Elliott W. Strong Chair in Head and Neck Oncology, at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Shah is an international leader in the field of head and neck surgery. He has published more than 600 peer reviewed articles which have been cited over 49000 times according to Google scholar. His h-index is 126. Dr. Shah has received numerous awards, from all corners of the world, including an eponymous lecture established in his name by the IFHNOS, an academic symposium in his name at the annual meetings of the American Head and Neck Society, and the Jatin Shah Lectureship and an Endowed Chair established in his name at MSKCC in New York.

Dr. Brendan C. Stack, Jr., M.D., FACS, FACE is Professor of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Little Rock, AR. Dr. Stack has authored over 200 peer-reviewed papers, chapters, and internet articles. Dr. Stack was co-editor of Medical and Surgical Treatment of Parathyroid Diseases - An evidence-based approach, Cham Switzerland: Springer International Publishing 2016. Dr. Stack was co-editor of Neck Dissection, Berlin, Germany: Thieme, 2018. He has presented at over 350 meetings regionally, nationally, and internationally. He collaborates on grants from the NIH, NSF and other public and private organizations. Dr. Stack has appeared on, or been cited by, local and national media numerous times. He serves on the editorial boards or as a reviewer of many journals. He has served on review panels for the National Institutes of Health and review agencies for the nations of Singapore, Italy, and England. Dr. Anil K. D’Cruz

He is currently the Director, Oncology – Apollo Hospitals, Mumbai, Chennai and Delhi. Awarded the Honorary FRCS from the Royal College of Surgeons, London, Dr.D’Cruz is the first Indian to hold the prestigious post of President Elect (2018-2020) and President (2020-2022) of the Union International for Cancer Control, Geneva, Switzerland which is the largest cancer organisation globally committed to the cause of cancer control. Prior to joining Apollo Hospitals, Dr.D’Cruz was Director of at Tata Memorial Hospital and Chief of Head Neck Services. He has held leadership positions and is on the board of numerous professional organisations, universities, research organisations and cancer institutions across the country and abroad. His landmark contribution on the management was neck nodes in oral cancer was awarded the prestigious plenary at the American Society of Clinical Oncology in 2015. With more than 250 peer reviewed publications and chapters to his name, Dr.D’Cruz is on the Editorial Board of many reputed national and international journals.
